Kowtow uses organically certified cotton that is ring-spun to create smooth, strong and durable garments. This type of spinning is used over the most common open-ended yarn type, which is created cheaply by blowing together short, loose fibres to create a rough feeling cotton. All cotton used is certified fair trade by Fairtrade International, and the brand’s dying process uses Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) approved dyes which are free of hazardous elements such as nickel, lead, formaldehyde, amines, pesticides and heavy materials. The dyeing process unit is also powered by rice husks, a renewable and non-polluting form of energy. All Kowtow garments are made in India in their SA8000 accredited factory, where workers receive many benefits including; a living wage, social security fund, medical insurance, paid holiday and sick leave, lunch subsidies, workplace unions, free transport to their workplace and a housing allowance.
