Driven by a need to change the rapidly deteriorated water conditions in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, iX Style’s hand made shoes are helping to improve the quality of life for many of the communities who inhabit the lake’s surrounding areas. Over 1000 female artisans are employed through a not-for-profit cooperative, allowing them to use their traditional craft, while working in fair trade conditions and earning a sustainable income. Equally for every pair of shoes purchased, a tree is planted! The biggest driver for founder Francesca Kennedy is, however, the ability to provide cleaner and more accessible water supplies to families, so that their children spend less time walking miles to collect dirty water, and more time in education. 15% of all profits are donated to “Charity:Water”, who finance the installations of water filtration systems, rain collection units and wells. So far, over 3000 children have been provided with clean drinking water.
