A true champion of the slow fashion movement, A Peace Treaty showcase century-old techniques used by artisans from around the world to ensure their rich heritages are not lost to modern society. Based in New York, their belief is that things made by human hands, imbued with the story of their makers, are the most beautiful and luxurious. Examples of their work include a collaboration with a collective of women in Kabul, Afghanistan who are working to rebuild their independence and dignity, gain literacy skills, and garner a viable income by hand embroidering exquisite one-of-a-kind shawls. APT also work with an all-women’s knitting cooperative that employs artisans from the Aymara and Quechua communities in the Altiplano and Andes regions of Bolivia and Peru. The women in these communities depend upon Alpaca farming for their livelihood, therefore the beautiful scarves they make with APT ensures a stable and reliable income is received.
