This handwoven Mochila bag is brought to life by Wayuu artisans in the La Guajira peninsula in northern Columbia. This bag takes up to 25 days to weave by hand with just a single strand of thread, making a very tight and strong weave. The pattern is a symbol of the Wayuu culture and a fine example of their ethnic lifestyle. The Mochila features a thick shoulder strap and an eye-catching tasselled drawstring to close.

ABOUT THE BRAND

Inspired by exceptional craftsmanship and unique patterns, Castellano enhance the techniques of some of the most highly skilled artisans in Colombia and celebrates the unknown tribes that are part of the brands history and ethnic origin. Each bag carries the essence of a traditional indigenous tribe, and is the result of a unique weaving technique passed down from generation to generation. The brand empowers local women by enabling them to be self-sufficient and create a business for themselves, however what sets the brand apart the most is their business model. Castellano allow the artisans to set their own prices, something that very few brands do, so the indigenous women have control over their work and their income is sustainable, meaning they can provide for their families. The profits made by Castellano are utilized to bring back water to the local regions, an essential resource for the survival of the communities.
